Demolition & Site clearance works at Armthorpe Academy
Fastsource Limited were employed to conduct the demolition and site clearance works at Armthorpe Academy to facilitate the construction of a new junior school.
Works consisted of soft strip work, mechanical demolition, site clearance of all resultant material offsite and the construction of new development platforms and access roads with imported aggregate.
16,20 and 40 yard Ro-Ro skips were utilised for segregated disposal of separate waste types, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, clean timber for biomass and general waste for further segregation at nearby MRF sites
Mechanical Demolition was conducted by 2nr 25 & 30 tonne Volvo 360 Excavators operated by experienced demolition operatives
Low grade timber was segregated for disposal as biomass fuel
Higher grade roof trusses and joists were selected from the demolition for resale as reclaimed timber
With a strong emphasis on the reduction of dust nuisance a ‘motofog’ dust suppression unit was in operation throughout the project much to the satisfaction of the site team and neighbours
Articulated bulkers were provided by leading biomass contractors Stobart Energy to minimise transport and further reduce the carbon footprint impact during the contract
Areas of the school were split into phases, as each area was demolished waste was sorted and areas cleared before commencing the next phase.
Various hydraulic attachments were utilised throughout the works to ensure maximum efficiency; Selector Grapple, Steel Shear and Concrete Breakers

Slabs and foundations were broken out to remediate the areas for future development
Recycled type 1 was imported on return loads for construction of access roads and crane pads for the new school construction
Works areas were segregated so that demolition could progress in isolation to groundworks activities
Drop zones were assessed and demarked during mechanical collapse of all structures
Throughout the works demolition progressed to a point of structural stability during shift breaks
Fastsource Tippers were utilised to remove the hard material from site to our aggregate recycling facility for production of 6f5 and Type 1
Various structure types were demolished throughout the project requiring adapting technique changes to ensure the buildings were demolished safely and efficiently
